Statement of Attainment in Civil Construction (Whitecard, hand/power tools & Work effectively)

SG00008947

Introduction:

Safety is everyone's business
Overview: White Card, Hand and Power Tools, Work Effectively

You need a white card for construction work.

A white card (or general construction induction card) is required for workers who want to carry out construction work.

People who need a white card include:

site managers, supervisors, surveyors, labourers and tradespeople
people who access operational construction zones (unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person)
workers whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones.
Visit Verify.licence to look up and verify NSW white cards (or general construction induction cards).
The white card becomes void if you haven't carried out construction work for two consecutive years or more.

NSW GIT cards issued under the WHS Regulation from 1 January 2012 and NSW construction induction cards (issued from 1 September 2009 to 31 December 2011) are recognised throughout Australia.

Power tools come in various shapes, sizes, voltages and varieties. Yet, irrespective of the size of the tool or how it’s powered, the principles of safe use apply equally to all.

First, remember that a power tool’s effectiveness is proportional to your level of training in using the tool, as well as your diligence in following safety guidelines.

Before starting any job, go through a pre-start process and ensure everyone who is using power tools is trained and competent. And always check to make sure tools are in good working order.

Keep your hands and feet away from moving parts, keep others a safe distance away, and wear the correct personal protective equipment for the job.

Finally, employers and experienced workers need to ensure new and young workers receive the correct training and supervision.
